There isn't always a connection to the power supply where network devices (e.g. WiFi Access Points, print server, cameras and IP telephones, etc.) are placed. With Power-over-Ethernet, the supply voltage can be conducted to the device via the existing network cable.
How it works:
The supply voltage is connected to one end of the Ethernet cable via an injector. At the other end of the cable, the voltage is disconnected from the Ethernet signal again by a splitter; alternatively, the cable is connected directly to a PoE-capable device.
